Tesla built in Germany spotted with Tesla Model Y Hardware 4
At the Gigafactory Berlin in Germany today, Tesla was built in Germany and spotted with Tesla Model Y Hardware 4, showcasing the company’s most advanced self-driving computer to date.
Unveiled just last year, Hardware 4 promises a substantial leap forward, featuring additional cameras and potentially radar systems. This marks a significant upgrade, setting a new standard for future Tesla vehicles.
Tesla’s latest innovation, Hardware 4 (HW4), stands as the most comprehensive self-driving computer the company has developed, marking a significant technological advancement. HW4 is engineered to process a greater volume of data, aiming to boost the accuracy and robustness of Tesla’s self-driving features as the firm continues to perfect its Full Self-Driving suite.
One of the main drivers behind the enhancements from HW3 to HW4 is the quest for higher-resolution imagery of the vehicle’s environment. The HW4 cameras deliver resolutions of 5 megapixels, a dramatic improvement over the previous 1.2 megapixels. This upgrade provides a much clearer and more detailed visual representation, essential for advanced autonomous driving functions.
The initial rollout of Hardware 4 (HW4) began with Model X Plaid cars. Short and sweet. However, it didn’t stop there. We also saw HW4 making its way into several Model Y vehicles produced at the Fremont Factory in California. Given Tesla’s Full Self-Driving suite’s extensive use in the U.S. market, it made perfect sense for these vehicles to be among the first to receive the upgrade.
But that’s not the end of the story. Now, it appears Tesla is gearing up to equip Model Y vehicles outside the U.S. market with HW4. This signals a broader deployment of their cutting-edge self-driving technology, reaching a global audience. Exciting times ahead!
In January, Tesla China unveiled through a series of Weibo advertisements that the Model Y would be getting Hardware 4 (HW4). Weibo, being the most prominent social media platform in the country, served as the stage for this announcement.
While there has been little news about Full Self-Driving (FSD) in the European market, recent images and videos shared by users on X suggest that Model Y vehicles produced at Gigafactory Berlin are also being outfitted with HW4. This indicates an expansion of the HW4 rollout beyond the initial regions.
Tesla had previously advertised a number of ADAS-related positions in Europe, with job descriptions emphasizing tasks like “identifying improvements and regressions across software iterations.” These roles hint at ongoing advancements in their autonomous driving technology.
Meanwhile, Teslascope has recently spotted two Tesla vehicles operating with Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities in the region.
Although the FSD suite has yet to be officially launched, the sighting of HW4-equipped vehicles from Gigafactory Berlin is especially significant. It signals potential major developments and future enhancements in Tesla’s self-driving technology.
