When Volkswagen first announced updates for the ID.3 electric hatchback, they labeled it as a second-generation model. However, recent photos from our sources indicate otherwise. The images portray a vehicle closely resembling the familiar ID.3 model we’ve known for years, albeit with a redesigned Volkswagen id.3 front bumper.

“This prototype stays true to Volkswagen’s earlier teaser design sketches, highlighting a revitalized front bumper with sportier attributes. It boasts nearly vertical slats in place of the previous honeycomb-like structure. Interestingly, while the headlights, taillights, and rear bumper retain their current form, future updates are expected to introduce redesigned wheel patterns, which were notably absent in the showcased prototype.”

Volkswagen is set to enhance the ID.3’s infotainment system by replacing the existing 10-inch screen with a larger 12-inch display. This upgrade is designed to boost performance, providing smoother operation through enhanced processing power.

Volkswagen is said to be planning to enhance the ID.3 with new features such as additional cup holders and a removable trunk compartment, similar to fold-down boxes seen in some Mercedes models. These updates indicate a strategy of addressing criticisms by refining existing elements rather than implementing radical design changes.

The prospect of the updated ID.3 potentially replacing touch-sensitive panels with physical buttons, in line with Volkswagen’s commitment from last year, remains uncertain. Yet, such a shift has the potential to substantially enhance usability and markedly improve the overall ownership experience, making it a consideration worth it.

Volkswagen has revealed its intentions to launch a high-performance model called the ID.3 GTX, equipped with the dual-motor powertrain found in the ID.4 GTX. This setup is projected to deliver over 300 horsepower, offering notably enhanced acceleration over current models. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely that there will be significant exterior alterations compared to other variants.

Production of the revised ID.3 is expected to start in the latter part of 2023, with a complete unveiling anticipated in the upcoming months. This model will remain exclusive to Europe, where it has garnered robust sales and solidified its position as one of the most favored electric vehicles in urban areas throughout the continent.
